Book your flight into Galeao Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport to reach Rio directly. This major South American airport provides service for a dozen international airlines and is located about 20 minutes north of the city.

Take the scenic route to Rio from other parts of Brazil via charter flights and regional airlines. There are dozens of cities throughout Brazil, including Recife and Portaliza, that have such small airlines. You should budget a large amount of money if you plan on taking more than one charter flight.

Purchase taxi vouchers in the airport after you fly into Rio for Carnival. There are vendors at both terminals that provide prepaid tickets for your taxi service into the city. You will have to haggle and bargain with taxi drivers without these vouchers.

Board the airport bus from the main level to your hotel in Rio. The bus departs on a regular basis from the main entrance of the airport for a small fee. You can take the bus to major hotels in Rio as well as to several stops along the beach.

Rent a car to help you travel from the airport into Rio for Carnival. The airport has counters for several international rental car companies that are easily accessible from the main terminals. You can take Linha Vermelha or Avenida Brasil into Rio, but prepare for difficult parking.
